The 2024 U.S. Women’s Open is upon us, and golf enthusiasts around the world are buzzing with excitement. This prestigious event, held at the iconic Lancaster Country Club in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, promises to be a showcase of the finest talent in Women’s golf. As we gear up for this thrilling tournament, let’s take a closer look at what makes the U.S. Women’s Open such a special event and what we can expect from this year’s competition.

A Glorious History

The U.S. Women’s Open has a rich history dating back to its start in 1946. It is the oldest of the LPGA Tour’s major championships and is widely considered the most prestigious. Over the decades, it has witnessed legendary performances and produced some of the most memorable moments in golf. From Babe Zaharia’s groundbreaking win in the early years to Annika Sorenstam’s dominance in the 1990s and 2000s, the U.S. Women’s Open has always been a stage where history is made.

The Venue: Lancaster Country Club

This year, the tournament returns to Lancaster Country Club. The Club offers a perfect blend of picturesque scenery and demanding play. This course, designed by William S. Flynn, is known for its narrow fairways, undulating greens, and strategic bunkering, all of which will test the world's best golfers.

Who to Watch

The 2024 U.S. Open features a stellar line-up, with all eyes on the top contenders.

Minjee Lee: An Australian golf star, Minjee Lee is known for powerful drives and impressive short games, making her a top contender in any tournament she enters. As the defending champion, fans eagerly await to see if she can repeat her previous success.

Nelly Korda: An American sensation, Korda is renowned for her athleticism and consistent performance on the LPGA Tour, making her a ferocious competitor in the tournament. As one of the top-ranked players in the world, her participation in the U.S. Women's Open brings high expectations and excitement, as fans anticipate her potential to claim another major title.

Jin Young Ko:  Ko transitioned to the LPGA tour in 2018 and made an immediate impact. Her rookie season was nothing short of spectacular, highlighted by a victory at the ISPS Hand Women's Australian Open. She finished the year as the LPGA Rookie of the Year, setting the stage for a phenomenal career. Known for her accuracy off the tee and outstanding putting skills she is one of the most formidable players. Her ability to handle high-pressure situations and deliver outstanding performances will be a delight to catch on the green at the 2024 U.S. Women's Open.

Rose Zhang: Up-and-coming star Rose Zhang is expected to make her mark in the tournament. Joining the pros just 12 months ago, Zhang has already secured two LPGA wins and will be representing the United States in the Olympic Games this summer. If Zhang is to win the 2024 U.S. Open, at 21 years old, she will be the youngest player to capture three different USGA Championships. To win a third USGA championship would put her in a select group with only six players who've done that: Joanne Carter, Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Carol Semple Thompson, Tiger Woods, and Jill McGill.

And the Winner is...

Yuka Saso made history on Sunday, June 2nd at Lancaster Country Club, becoming the first player in USGA history to win the U.S. Women's Open on multiple occasions and for two different countries. This is Saso's first victory since the U.S. Women's Open triumph at The Olympic Club in 2021. Saso's win puts her in a position to compete for Japan at the Olympics later this summer. She represented the Phillippines in the Tokyo Games in 2021.

Other highlights from the 2024 U.S. Women's Open include Minjee Lee trying to defend her 2023 title, but unfortunately, between a pair of bogeys and double bogeys on No. 12 and 14, she finished tied for ninth.

Ally Ewing, had Sunday's best score at 66. After opening the round 9 shots off the lead at 4 over, Ewing finished just 4 shots back. Additionally, American, Andrea Lee, had a pair of costly bogeys on the final two holes to drop even for the tournament, landing her in third place.
